Golf Digest Names Saratoga National
one of America's 100 Greatest Public Courses
SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – May 18, 2005 Golf Digest has selected Saratoga National Golf Club as one of “America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses” for 2005-2006. The club is also included in the magazine’s “Best in State” rankings.
Golf Digest ranked Saratoga National #57 among public courses in the nation and #20 among all courses in the state. Saratoga National opened in 2001 and has earned numerous awards for providing a world-class golf experience with amenities similar to those of private golf clubs. Open seven days a week, Saratoga National offers guests complimentary bottled water, golf car with GPS Yardage System, unlimited use of practice facility, a Victorian-style clubhouse and four-star dining at Sargo’s.
“It’s a tremendous honor to be recognized by Golf Digest as one of America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses,” said Saratoga National President Tom Newkirk. “It’s one of the most respected rankings in the game. Receiving this award shows that all of our hard work is paying off.”
Thousands of courses are considered for Golf Digest rankings each year. The courses are played and evaluated by members of the magazine’s exclusive course evaluation panel. Members of the panel, composed of 850 low-handicap male and female golfers nationwide, rate each course on a number of criteria including Shot Value, Resistance to Scoring, Design Variety, Memorability, Aesthetics, Conditioning, Ambiance and Walkability. After each panelist submits an evaluation, Golf Digest averages the scores to determine the overall rankings.
Ranked #1 in “America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses” this year was Pebble Beach. Also on the list were Pinehurst (#2) and Whistling Straits G.C. (#5). The complete rankings are featured in the May 2005 issue of Golf Digest.
